These are the posts I've been making on social media that inspired this project:

1. MAGA friends and family:

I want you to try to imagine the Jesus you know. Do you see Him donning the camouflage, boots, mask and firearm of an ICE agent? Do you see Him deliberately popping off rounds into peaceful protestors, including clergy, children and people in inflatable costumes? Would He drag people out of their legal immigration court proceedings, separating mothers and fathers from their children?
Would He support tax breaks for the uber-wealthy, while stripping EVERY social program for the marginalized and oppressed? You know, the man that flipped tables in the temple because they were mixing business and faith?

I can tell you unequivocally, He wouldn’t. He would stand and die with us, just like He died 2 millennia ago. Jesus says, in Matthew 7 (NIV):

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you...Small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them… A BAD TREE CANNOT BEAR GOOD FRUIT.

Jesus tells you to take the DIFFICULT path of loving ALL of your neighbors, regardless of qualifiers. He warns you to watch for charlatans who seek to manipulate the Word for their own financial or political gain.

Reject the Trump propaganda. Jesus does.

Yet another example of a bad tree bearing bad fruit. Share with moderate MAGA, especially if you're white Christian and male. Drive the message home. Hammer them on it!

2. MAGA friends and family:

I plead with you to understand that although you may disagree with us, we are exercising our 1st Amendment Rights while we still can. We are not paid by Soros. We spend our own money to organize and protest. I spent a week preparing for this, between work and family life, BECAUSE IT IS IMPORTANT. We all picked up after ourselves, we were respectful to law enforcement (I even thanked them for being there and being Good Neighbors to us), emergency services and brought tons of business downtown. There was not a hint of violence, although there were lots of laughs, hugs and high fives. All of my neighbors were wonderful! I handed out noisemakers and silly hats to the kids in attendance. I got the opportunity to fellowship with my neighbors of all backgrounds, shades, and religions, dress up in silly costumes, create art on sidewalks with chalk. There were activities for kids, the medical staff was on point, and the speakers were fire!

We are not the enemy. I am not the enemy, as much as Trump and his gang want you to believe so. And even though you don't realize it yet, we are fighting for your rights too; because it isn't about right vs left like they want you to think. It's top vs bottom, and gentle sirs and ladies, you have more in common with ME than with any billionaire. I am not violent, and neither are the millions who joined me yesterday.

Black, brown or white, we are all beautiful shades of wheat.

Non-MAGA friends and family:

I implore you to plead your humanity to your own MAGA friends and family. They think you’re "One of the Good Ones" and that Trump can't possibly mean you. We have to shred that veil that allows the regime to operate with impunity. They are not going to see videos of peaceful protestors or violently unconstitutional ICE operations on Fox, NewsMax or Reddit. YOU HAVE TO SHOW THEM!

3. MAGA friends and family:

Trump's false claim is that Antifa (anti-fascism) is a violent, leftist ideology. It is not; in fact, up until 2016 or maybe even 2020, we were all firmly anti-fascist. I grew up watching Saving Private Ryan, The Postman, Band of Brothers, The Pianist, Schindler’s List, Pearl Harbor, Inglorious Basterds. The list is endless. Some of these, I watched with you. We knew who the bad guys were without saying anything. We were all implicitly antifascist, whether you said you were or not. Somehow during Trump’s first term in office y’all forgot that implicit understanding that fascism is bad. Russia somehow became palatable to the American conservative when y'all used to be unflinchingly hawkish toward them.

The only difference between us is I still think fascism is bad, because it is. That’s it. All that said, I have a genuine question: Are you willing to turn your back on our shared history and the hundreds of thousands of anti-fascist American patriots that fought and died against the German and Japanese during WW2? Because that doesn’t sound like the person I know.

The person I know understood the need for D-Day, the need for our sacrifices on Normandy and Iwo Jima, understood the sacrifice required to preserve this Great Nation and is grateful to those men and women who served.

Quite honestly, we never changed. You did.
